Berlin Day 3

First thing in the morning we
headed back to Checkpoint Charlie
to go to the museum.
Lucky for us the 'soldiers'
were not at the checkpoint yet, so we could get
some picutres without them or paying for them
to take our picture.

Then we went to the museum.
We could have easily spent the whole day here
reading every thing, but it was also very
sad to read about life back then.
The lenghts people went to
to escape East Berlin.

We made our way to second floor and realized it
was time to go. It had a lot of history on
more recent and current conflits or events.
We quickly found ourselves having to
stop the kids from reading things.
We want to expose the kids to a lot
of things, but we felt it was little too
heavy for their current age. Honestly
some of it was too much for me.

We decided to cheer up the mood and
go on a bear hunt on our way to lunch.
Buddy Bear is all over Berlin, so
we decided to see how many we could find.

In the middle of the city we found a bombed
out church. It was beautiful!

After lunch and a little shopping
(Berlin has some great shopping)
we went to the Berlin Zoo.

It was located in the middle of city,
but once you entered the zoo you never would have
realized that.

Hard to believe it was Sweet Boys first
visit to a zoo, but in my defense he has been
to 3 different countries.

Off we went to explore with our tour guide!
He was a man with a plan.

We got very close to a lot of the animals.
Sweet Boy went crazy at the monkeys!
I wish I had video of him just talking to them.
I was wearing him on my back, so it was a little
hard to take pictures of him.

After spending a few hours at the zoo it was time
 to call it day!
We found one more bear on the way back to
the hotel.
It was our last night in Berlin so
when  we got  back to our room the big kids
went swiming with Mr. PC and Sweet Boy
crawled all around the room.
We ordered room service for dinner
and called it a night.

Berlin Day 2

On day two we started with a visit
to Checkpoint Charlie.
We had planned to do the Checkpoint Charlie museum,
but is was not stroller friendly and Sweet Boy
had just fallen asleep.
We decided to do it the next day.
A piece of the Berlin Wall near checkpoint Charlie.
You can find pieces of it all over the town.

You find markers all along the city like this letting you
know it is where the wall once stood.
We exlored the city on foot

Sweet Boy was really taking it all in.
Both of the kids got cameras from Ms. Nada
before we moved over here. The Diva has always taken a ton
of pictures, but Mr. Man really got into it on this trip.

Here he is having his sister take a picture of him.

One is in the former East Berlin and
the other in the former West Berlin
This part of the trip was very somber.
To see pictures and read about the events.
To go to bed one night and wake up the next
morning and not be able
to visit your family who only live
a block away.
It's just heart breaking to think about
what life was really like in Berlin back then.
This church stood in between East and West Berlin
it was demolished about 5 years before the wall came down.

Foundation from the church

The new church
This shows one of the paths where someone
had dug a tunnel under the wall.

After a long day headed back to the hotel and
took some pictures with Berlin Bear.

It was a day packed with history. So much
more then I ever learned in school or
that my kids have learned in school.
