Rudesheim am Rhein

Our first day trip was to
Rudesheim am Rhein.
We made our way to the train station
earlier than the family wanted to,
but I was on a mission.
We purchased a day ticket for the entire family
with a cost of only 15 euros.

We met a really nice German man
on the train that gave us some great tips.
The train ride was only 34 minutes long.
 The town was beautiful!

We made our way through the town
to Seilbahn Ruedesheim an Rhein
We started with a cable car ride up the mountain.
The views are amazing and you travel over top the vineyards.

Once we reached the top we headed off on foot.

The views are out of this world!

 We made it to the
Niederwalddenkmal monument.
It is located in the Niederwald Landscape park.
The monument was constructed to commemorate the
foundation of the German Empire after the end
of the Franco-Prussian War.
It was huge and could be seen for miles.

Then we walked through the woods.
It was a beautiful walk with lots of shade.

We spent about 90 minutes walking before we reached
our ride down the mountain.
We took a chair lift down!
The kids loved it!

I think this might be one of the very few
places you can not smoke in Germany.

We made our way down into the town.
The views once again were awesome.

The town looks like a picture you see in
 a book!

Then we took a boat back to Rudesheim.

We walked around the town and
 down Droggelgass.
The street is filled with shops, restaurants,
and wine shops.
We had lunch at
Zum Drosselmuller!
The food was great and they had
English menus and that's a big plus.
We got some ice cream and I did a little
wine tasting.
I was very happy to find a sweet Riesling,
because most have been very dry.
Then it was back to the train and time to call it a day!
It was a great day and we plan to go back soon.

I think our first day trip was a success!
The kids loved the cable car and chair lift
and wanted to do it again and again.

Oh Happy Day

We got our stuff!
59 days after we said goodbye
and the truck pulled away
4 trucks pulled up with all our household goods.
 We said 'auf wiedersehen'
to our temporary furniture
and started the long process of unpacking.
Opening each box was like Christmas
because you never knew what the
movers put in each box.

Some boxes come with more wrapping paper
than appliances and other boxes get none!
Let's put two knife blocks with very
sharp knives in a box with
NO PAPER!
~SMART~
Let's only pack half of something.
After the movers left the house we found the
knife to this, but could not find the board.
We found the board!
It made it to Germany, but the knife
is hanging out with Grandpa in the states!
Even with a million boxes to unpack and lots
to do we always find the time to be a little silly!
The truth is we need to laugh a lot
or we would go crazy during this PCS!
We are about 95% unpacked and started to paint.
Once we are done I will take more pictures of our home.
The car made it about 10 days late along with tire damage.
Once we get that fixed
we will start to travel.

What do you do?

What do you do when you
have no car, no households goods and it rains a lot???

You bake!!!!

I hope to be back to blogging soon.
I am really behind.
This move to Germany
has got me all out of whack!
