Fifteen years ago this little guy entered our world and
turned it upside!
I learned fast that little boys play hard and feel hard.
I spent so much time taking him down from things.
It seemed in his early years his goal with to give me gray hair
and a heart attack. He was fearless and funny. He had and still does have great
comedic timing.
After a few years he found Legos at the age of 3,
and he no longer had the need to perform death defying stunts,
but instead spent hours and hours building with Legos.
was one of my favorite things to do. It was like a got a little peak into his mind.
I have often said he was an old soul and I still see it today!
He is wise beyond his years, has a level of seriousness not normally
seen at his age, values his alone time, and he can see and understand the big "picture".
From the time he could talk, he asked for a baby! He really didn't understand why
I could not bring one home from the store. After almost seven years of being the "baby"
he got his little brother. He has been an amazing big brother. Yes, he can get a little tired of
his shadow, but he loves him like crazy.
The last few years have been full of growth, both physical and
mental. He is no longer a boy and on the path to becoming a man.
He is almost as tall as his Dad and has found a love for lifting heavy things.
This summer when I took the Diva back to states to start college, he had to watch his little brother.
For a over 10 days, he watched him for 8-10 hours a day. He knocked it out of the park!
He built forts, took him to the basketball court, played laser tag outside, made him read chapter books,
took him to the store for treats, made his lunch and started dinner for his Dad.
He even got creative with meals and made deviled eggs and egg salad sandwiches for lunch.
Once his Dad had got home from work he either mowed lawns in the neighborhood or did Algebra online.
It was a big ask on our part, but I knew he could do it.
This year we had to make some hard decisions when it came to his schooling.
After trusting a school counselor and acting on that information, we found out
it was not factual. The school would not place him where he should have been placed.
None of the school options were acceptable, so he is now a part-time student at the
high school on base. He is only taking electives there and the rest of his classes he is
doing a self-study program though a university. While it was a hard decision to make, he understands
why we had to make it. He can see the benefit in the long run. The goal is to go
back to high school full-time when we leave here. He also knows that depending on our next location that
might not be possible.
If you asked me to use one word to describe him it would be amazing!
He is compassionate, funny, thoughtful, loving, understanding, smart, creative, loyal,
and just all around amazing.
If I happen to head to bed early he will come into my room and
chat with me. When I cook in the kitchen he has turned into my shadow.
Last week he made sloppy joes from scratch, helped bake banana bread, and is the
best cupcake taster ever. He mows our lawn and has a few regular customers in the neighborhood.
He has a few friends that he hangs out with and still talks with
his friends from Texas all the time. No matter what time he goes to bed
I always get a goodnight kiss.
As you can tell I could write a book about him, but instead
here are few more pictures of our Mr. Man.
